Hey Yall!

I wanted to take a moment to introduce myself to those who may not know me. My name is Tori Waldrep. I grew up in rural Franklinton and graduated from Pine High School in 2002. I am a mom of 3 girls, 2 of which that are grown up and my baby daughter which is 12 going on 21(haha), and I have been married to my best friend, Tommy, nearly 20 years. I was raised by my grandparents, Marvin and June Thomas. My pawpaw was a well know and well respected man in our community. Before I was born he was a dairyman. Then in 1972, he started driving a school bus for Washington Parish School System. He always told me that he was going to retire the year I graduated, 2002. In 1991 he ran for and won his spot on Washington Parish Police Jury which was later changed to Washington Parish Council. He served for 15 and a half years until he got sick and passed away in 2007. He always fought for the little guy and taught me to always stand up for what was right, even if I had to stand alone.

In 2018 I started a little ol' community Facebook group called, "What's Happening Franklinton?" with my best friend, Jessica. It quickly grew to over 4000 members and we added Jared Payzant to the admin team. The 3 of us ran a tight shipwreck (lol). What made us different from other community groups was how strict we were on sharing true verifiable information. We wanted to have a central place where information for the whole community could be shared. But we grew weary of the constant bickering and drama. So, one day a bout a year ago, we decided we were done. We deleted every single member and closed it down. But after a few months, I knew we had to open it back up. Last week we had a teacher and staff walk out at Washington Parish School System. I knew that I was going to be very vocal about what was happening and because Jessica is a para with WPSS, I specifically asked her if she wanted to step down as admin, and she did. I knew it would put her in a difficult position and I did not want to be the cause of her getting any backlash. However, that left an admin vacancy. So I asked my daughter, Richea, if she wanted to step up and she did. Now I have decided to create this blog as an extra layer to the Facebook group. I hope to use it as a way to bring more attention to those things I created WHF for in the beginning, local politics being front and center. I truly hope that everyone can utilize the information posted here to better understand the workings of our community and how to become more involved. Love Yall, Tori
